If you go on Pinterest TikTok, check out YouTubers and streamers on Twitch, or even just look at Google images, you’re going to find so many different anime and otaku-themed bedrooms. Honestly, there isn’t anything new about these; it’s just nowadays, it’s way easier to buy what you want (as just a decade ago, you’d either have to buy your anime stuff from cons or import it).
Plus, over the last ten years, people aren’t so hush-hush about anime, it’s actually widely popular and widely accepted. Something weebs of the past would have done anything to have.
But anyway, if you’re thinking about creating an anime aesthetic room, well, you have a lot of options! Seriously just imagines waking up surrounded by iconic posters, cozy plushies, and all the collectibles that make you feel like you’re living in your very own anime world. Sure, the kawaii aesthetic exists, and there are similarities, but they don’t necessarily mean they’re the same thing. There are some differences.
It doesn’t even matter whether you’re a fan of the cute and pastel “Sailor Moon” vibes or the darker, edgier feel of “Tokyo Ghoul,” but this guide will show you how to level up your room into an anime-inspired paradise that screams you and what you like!
But before you get started on your, why not listen to some 1980s Japanese City Pop while reading this article?

Consider Getting a Display Case for Your Precious Collectibles
Alright, so for starters, those figures, keychains, and all the anime merch you’ve collected? Well, they deserve a spot that’ll show them off! You know that figure of Tanjiro from “Demon Slayer” or your Naruto Funko Pop (if people still even buy those)?
Well, get yourself a glass display case or a floating wall shelf. If you opt for a glass display case, you’re probably better off buying it from IKEA since they’re super affordable; plus, there are a lot of different shapes, sizes, and even price ranges to choose from. But of course, Amazon has a few, too.
But why a case? Well, with a display case, you get museum vibes, protecting your stuff from dust and giving each piece its own spotlight. It’s definitely ideal if you’ve painted figures or you spent a lot of money on some of the collectors. But just try arranging your figurines according to anime series, colors, or even the characters’ “powers” or abilities to make it look like a cool action lineup.
Bookshelves Just for Your Manga Collection
Manga fans know that keeping manga looking fresh is serious business! Your manga shelf is like the library of your favorite worlds, from One Piece to the high school drama of Fruits Basket (which is super nostalgic for all you millennials reading this). But if you own manga, DVDs, art books, basically any anime merch, and you want to show it off, this is the best way to go at it.
You’re going to want to choose open bookshelves or a cool wall-mounted rack to display your series and keep them easy to reach. Most people tend to buy those white IKEA billy bookcases, and honestly, they’re pretty cute so you can’t go wrong with that choice. But you could organize them by series, color (for that aesthetic rainbow vibe), or keep it super simple and let the covers speak for themselves.
Fill the Bed with Plushies
So, there isn’t any specific bedding when it comes to anime aesthetic bedrooms. Some people will buy body pillows of a certain anime character (granted it’s more of a meme at this point), maybe a duvet cover of their favorite anime character, or something among the lines of that.
But you can choose want you want. But for the most part, anime rooms are all about those soft, comfy vibes! If you’re aiming for something cute and kawaii, go for pastel bedding and fill it with plushies—think Korilakkuma, Kirby, Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, or your favorite Pokémon.
But what id something like that just isn’t your style? Well, if you want something darker? Then why not try black or navy bedding with pops of red or purple for a more “Death Note” or “Jujutsu Kaisen” vibe. It’s just a couple of examples of what you could do. You just have to keep in mind that plushies aren’t just decorations—they’re friends! You can fill your bed up with them, but obviously, you don’t need to do that either!
Don’t Forget About the Desk Setup
Your desk is the command center, and it’s gotta look good. Here’s where you can really showcase your anime style with posters, a themed desktop background, and cute (or edgy) desk accessories. Popular choices include pastel pencil holders, cute sticky notes, or even anime-themed mousepads—because who wouldn’t want to see their favorite character right under their hand all day?
You can see above that there are some examples of what you could do, but really, just do what you want, and just make your desk feel like you (and it helps keeping it productive too).
Cover the Walls with Anime Posters and Tapestries
Seriously though, an anime room isn’t complete without posters on the walls—lots of them! What a lot of people tend to do is go for a full wall collage with overlapping posters, but others might do a few tapestries instead. You can color coordinate these if you want to, if you go on Pinterest, you’ll usually see a color theme.
The Color Palette Doesn’t Matter Too Much
Anime rooms can fit any color palette, so it’s all about finding one that makes you feel at home. If you’re drawn to softer aesthetics, go for kawaii pastels, like some soft pinks, baby blues, and mint greens, like a bedroom straight out of “Sanrio” or “Sailor Moon.” But that’s obviously not everyone's style either, though. So, if you’re someone who’s either masculine or you just want the room to feel and look a little mature, then darker shades could work, like black, red, and grey.
But not sure which way to go? Well, you can try a neutral base, actually, a more neutral base is fairly common in Japan for otaku there. Plus it gives you more room to work with when it comes to bedding and accessories.
Bedrooms from Popular Characters in Anime
Now, are anime bedrooms in some of the most popular animes out there really as vibrant as the anime aesthetic? Well, honestly, no! You have to keep in mind that there are multiple factors. For starters, it’s not like all anime characters are anime fans (or even anime existing in their universe); the rooms are based on their personality and maybe the typical person of that age during the time period it was made.
Plus, it’s probably just way too much to draw every time there’s a scene. So that’s why you usually see most bedrooms in anime as fairly boring (and bedrooms in Japan are quite small, too). But for fun, let’s look at some popular anime and some of their character’s bedrooms (especially if you’re considering recreating their room).
Naruto (including Boruto and Sasuke)
So, just looking at Naruto’s bedroom from when he was a kid, you can see that it’s very small, boring, and dull. It’s apparent that it’s for a boy, but it’s very small.
Now, compare that to Sasuke, and his bedroom! His is massive, he has a TV, his bed is like two to three times the size of Narutos, and he even has a balcony attached to his bedroom.
But of course, we can’t skip out on Boruto, which is Naruto’s son, later is the series (having its own series). There’s a stark difference in technology (with Boruto having a computer), and he has way more stuff than what his dad had growing up (which means Boruto can have more self-expression in his bedroom).
Sailor Moon (including Sailor Venus and Sailor Moon Crystal)
Alright, so for this one, we have the 1990s Sailor Moon (who doesn’t adore the aesthetics of this classic?) We have Usagi (or Serena, for you who grew up on dubs) and Sailor Venus in their 1990s bedroom. So, this is definitely spot on for the time. Back in the late 1980s and earlier 1990s, everyone loved color, especially teenage girls!
You can see in Sailor Venus’s bedroom that she is still a child at heart (granted, she’s just a teenager in the show), and her bedroom is decked out in adorable plushies and posters on the wall.
For Sailor Moon Crystal, you can see for yourself that there’s been a bit of an update to Usagi’s bedroom. Now, the differences aren’t major, anything like that, but it does appear to have more classic-looking furniture rather than anything blocky. Plus, it has this mix of sophistication while still looking perfect for a teen girl.
K-On (Mio and Yui)
K-On isn’t known for its interior like Sailor Moon’s bedroom is, but both Mio and Yui deserve to be mentioned. So, Mio’s bedroom definitely looks like it came from the early 2010s, but honestly, it’s cute, especially with the contrasting colors. Plus, it looks pretty major. Yui, on the other hand, can see her bedroom is pinkish red from top to bottom, and she has a less minimalist approach (with more stuff on the walls and floor) than Mio.
KiKi’s Delivery Service
Who doesn’t love this Studio Ghibli film? If you love Cottagecore, chances are you already love this movie, but have you seen her bedroom? Sure, we mostly see the sad one in the bakery, but the one at her parent’s home is so cute!
FAQs
How do I keep my anime room looking organized and not cluttered?
Surprisingly enough, there is something about this aesthetic that gives off this cluttered vibe. But display cases and shelves are lifesavers. You can even consider using storage boxes or baskets for smaller items and keep your manga and figures arranged by series or color to avoid that “messy collector” look.
What’s the best way to display posters without damaging the walls?
Removable wall tape, sticky tack, or even poster strips work wonders without leaving marks. If you’re in a dorm, go for lightweight tapestries—they’re easy to hang and take down without damage.
Can I mix anime with other decor styles?
Totally! Anime decor blends well with a lot of other styles. Try pairing anime posters with fairy lights or combining kawaii pastels with modern furniture for a unique look.
What if I’m on a budget?
Anime decor doesn’t have to break the bank. If you want, you can print out your own posters, DIY a few accessories, or check out thrift stores for cute decor that matches your vibe.
Where’s the best place to buy anime decor?
Here at Roomtery, we sell some Kawaii items and a couple of anime-based LED neon signs. But you can check out Etsy, eBay, Amazon (including Amazon JP), Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and the list goes on and on. But there are so many different websites that have a lot in various budgets.
